A Comment Card Revolution

Posted by Jeremy Haines

I spent about 30 minutes yesterday reading through 18 pages of comments from a worship leading conference we played at a while back and was astounded by 2 things:

1.) How easily I seemed to be to be able to differentiate between people who were trying to help and people who just wanted to gripe

and

2.) How much the gripers out numbered the helpers.

I had to make a definite effort to not become disheartened by the condition of the Church (please notice the uppercase "C"), however, instead of giving up I've decided to start a revolution.  I think the issue is people think that comment cards are only for negative things, and I am out to change that misconception.  I challenge you to comment on the positive!  Crazy I know, but as the Church we are called to "encourage one another and build up one another" (1 Thes. 5:11.)  Now I'm not saying to ignore the negative, just check yourself, attitude and spirit, before you fill out that comment card.  Is the kingdom really being effected by the ice tea being too strong?

P.S. : I initially intended to explore what a comment card would look like if Christ wrote one about us in the same attitude of a griper but decided that I couldn't do it in an spirit of "building up."  So maybe at a later date, just something for you to think about before you complain.

It is so easy to be negative when you do not have to sign your name.

It's amazing what a different tone you get from people when you make a habit of recieving complaints, then asking the person how they will help resolve the issue. People really become enabled to make a difference, or they flounder under the pressure. Either way, the real person comes through.

Awesome post! I heard my pastor say before you make one negative complaint or comment back it up with 10 positive remarks/comments.
